2004 tf 135 hgf
Hi all,
Well its finaly happend, right at 80,000 kms. I have searched the forums and I am pretty sure its I have a HGF. Its splutery to start, using some water and the water is quite dirty and mirky. Now I have had some prices to get it fixed and its not cheap, neither are parts down here in Oz. However I am fortunate enough to be traveling to the UK in about 3 weeks time and thought I might try to pick up some parts to bring home with me. Thats where I was hopeing to get some assistance, I dont know my way around well and wil on ly have a short time in the UK I will be in York for a week and Stoke on Trent for a week. Is there anywhere near these areas I can get well priced parts to repair an HGF Looking to pick up Head gasket, head bolts, seals, etc that I need mabey even a water pump to do at the same time. If anybody can make any recomendations I would greatly appreciate it. Regards Ben |

From your description, I'm not so sure that you have head gasket failure. Read - http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=243523

MGF Centre in Wolverhampton is not far from Stoke, 01902 453100 or check web site, best to contact them in good time if you need specific parts.

Mike Satur is not far from York, especially if you are travelling from York to Stoke via car. A minor detour off either the M1 or A1.

Thanks guys,
I am pretty sure its gone, mechanic told me there was combusion gases in water top up tank. Might have to email Mike Satur a list so I can pick it up on the way past. Just to give you an idea of what parts cost overe here in oz I had a mate who owns an auto elec call around and the best he could get me parts was. Head gasket AU$360 ~ 208 Pounds Head bolts AU$237 ~ 136 Pounds Water pump AU$317 ~ 183 Pounds Timing belt AU$100 ~ 58 Pounds So it might even be worth some of the uk distributers offering international mail order at those prices. One last question I see on Mikes site he has 2 types of head gasket any conseus on which is better. The race or uprated rover? Regards Ben |

Ben, you could perhaps try Paul Walbran Motors in NZ. http://www.mgparts.co.nz
Head bolts - $NZ10.57 each Head gasket - Original $NZ84.38, Multilayer $NZ94.38 Water pump - $NZ242 Timing belt - 1.8i $NZ64.18 Maybe not the cheapest around here, and you would need shipping on top of that of course, but I am sure Paul can arrange that. Disclaimer: I know Paul personally, via the Mg Car Club (Auckland). |

Only the timing belt is coming close to UK prices. HG set here should cost you around £50, Bolts around a tenner each and water pump around £30. If you are doing the HG would also be worth considering changing the thermostat too, they are about £6 so really cheap and you know it is done. Definitely worth getting them here even if they charge you a bit of import tax back in Oz. Hope you get her sorted mate. |

Thanks for that, will have to add a thermostat to my shopping list.
Does anybody have any suggestions on which of the two types of head gasket to use. Ben |

i would check this thread out as it would be better to get all the parts that might be needed rather than being short.

may be worth fitting the MLS gasket and uprated oil rail (both are fitted to the new tf) this was introduced by Landrover on the Freelander in 2005 i think
