Question Whining noise - 2005 Megane Sport Tourer 1.5dci 80 :( - Please help!

Hi all,

Not been on here for ages since I left my 211 behind but I'm back with a request for some advice!

I've had a bad whining noise on my new car for a while now, seems to be getting worse very slowly, had the car since September and it started a month or so after.

Can't really describe the noise other than sounding like a broken supercharger, it is rev dependant and occurs in every gear but drowns out at around 3000rpm...Only happens under load and when engine is warmed up. I know it isn't the turbo as this whistles at the same time as the other noise.

So far I've had the following replaced:

- Alternator
- Alt belt
- Radiator
- Clutch
- Near side steering arm
- Cam belt
- Indicator /wiper stalk cluster (completely fell to bits!)
- Fuel filter
- Air filter

The noise is still there...lol...I spent £2495 on the car (mileage is now 131,000) and have spent around £1000 on sorting it out and trying to fix the god damned noise.

It pulls like it should and runs smoothly, it's just a noise...but I'm paranoid and don't want something to screw up suddenly

The car heats up as it should and there are no signs of the water pump going so for now I'm ruling that out unless somebody can suggest otherwise? My local garage has advised me that the tensioners and pulleys are all fine, and the air con systems seems to be fine after just having it re-gassed.

Or any other ideas?

Hope you can help

Cheers,

Andy

yeah it does do that, but only does it under load not when stood still or in neutral. i'm guessing this rules out the cambelt it's really winding me up...

i did mess with the air intake hose when I replaced the filter, which temporarily got rid of the noise. i wondered if there was a hole or split in the intake pipe, perhaps this could produce the sound? what d'ya think?

Cheers,
Andy
